25 longs year from today, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge hit the screens, to never leave again. While the Coronavirus pandemic did force it to stop playing in Maratha Mandir, we all know what a record the film has set. On-screen and otherwise, after 25 years of DDLJ, the movie is still as fresh as any other for many.
In fact, for many of us, the film release before we were even born and yet, it is a classic for all of us. When the movie plays, we all take a good look at it if not sit through the entire film. Shah Rukh Khan as Raj and Kajol as Simran, have set the bar too high. Not to mention, when they said ‘Come fall in love,’ most of us stayed in love, and continue to be!
25 years of DDLJ and one wouldn’t be surprised if we find so many people rewatch it again today and on many other days. While the film has its own anecdotes and did you knows, it continues to be the finest for many movie buffs. As we scroll through social media, DDLJ is everywhere, even after all this time, and proudly so?

The movie is an emotion for many, but to some, it is this epic love story, one that they want, forgetting everything else that also took place during the film. While not many of us thought about what happens later, many did think about the what ifs? The entire film could have become a sham if so many moments played out otherwise, but all’s well that ends well!
None the less, the movie might feel not so relevant in contemporary times, and yet, we relate to it. In rather surprising ways, the movie still tops all other love stories, at least a majority of them. Even after all these years, Raj and Simran are two characters that have stayed with everyone, probably always will.
Though the film has its own problems with the NRI angle, the love for India bit, and the undue importance to ‘approval,’ there’s more to this film. Anyone who has watched it, no matter what their current views, has a soft corner for this one. And well, we can all give it away to the film, can’t we? Aditya Chopra put together a classic as his debut movie – a commercial hit and much loved.
As the world celebrates 25 years of DDLJ, it’s indeed time to fall in love, with everything around us, and more!
