As Amitabh Bachchan calls out irresponsible journalism, may be more people speaking up is the need of the hour

On July 11, Amitabh Bachchan was tested positive for the novel Coronavirus and soon after, the news of Abhishek Bachchan came out too. They have been admitted to the hospital and then Aishwarya and Aaradhya too, were tested positive.

While fans and everyone across the industry have been praying for their speedy recovery, the reporting in such times has been horrendous. Right from how they spoke about Big B doing odd tasks on his own, to today, reports about him testing negative.

While the reports are untrue, he also took to reply to the tweet and lash out at the reporting. Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “.. this news is incorrect, irresponsible, fake and an incorrigible LIE !!” And if anything, this does make us wonder so many things.

Check out the tweet from Amitabh Bachchan here:

More often than not, celebrities and other popular names choose to not speak up until things get extreme. However, while this is a minor incident of something that could have been avoided, it does make us question journalism aspects in Indian media.

More recently, prior to Amitabh Bachchan, Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise was also reported rather shabbily. To date, the way updates on his demise are presented, are more often than not extremely insensitive.

Hence, something that this highlights, if anything, is to ensure that one checks the credibility. While it might not always be possible, it is also necessary for the people in question to speak up. Thanks to Big B, him pointing the lie will now have people think twice before putting things out there.

While we all preach the news aspects, we must also be careful in sharing them and adding to fake news. At a time when the internet has made the spreading of news so easy, it is all the more necessary to be precautious, if anything.

There is no such thing as enough of reading and writing, or so I believe. While everything else might cause saturation, words always come to the rescue. A writer for a major part of my life, I take things as they come, but not without a pen and paper.
