Netizens threaten to boycott Zomato after Swara Bhaskar asks company to pull down ads from Republic TV

Last month we saw how brands like Bajaj Auto and Parle excluded themselves from associating with platforms that are “a source of toxicity in the society”.

Stretching the same cord ahead, netizens pointed out that the food delivery app Zomato is one of the advertising partners on Republic TV news channel.

Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker took it up on Twitter and wrote, “Hey @zomatoin @zomato @deepigoyal I’m your regular customer.. do u plan to #DefundTheHate & pull your ads from hate espousing channels like @Republic_Bharat ? I’m not okay with my money even indirectly funding this kind of communal bigoted hate! Pls let your consumers know..”

Zomato replied on the post with, “Hi Swara, please note, we don’t endorse any content except our own. That being said, we are looking into this.”

However, the fans of that particular channel which shall remain nameless (for obvious reasons) didn’t really like it. The furious reactions of the fans clearly stated that they wanted the food delivery app Zomato to clear its stance on this. They started threatening to “uninstall the app for siding with Bhasker.”

Zomato has not released any official statement yet regarding their commercials on Republic TV. However, Twitter, like always is divided into two groups – one demanding the company to “defund hate” and other threatening to boycott for not supporting the News Channel and its popular anchor.
