The latest adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women directed by Greta Gerwig has been the talking point across the internet, courtesy, the nature of the movie, and of course, now that we can stream it online. For someone who has read the book back in the school days, the movie is a delight to watch now that we are all grown-ups.
And while we are all streaming content online and looking out for new things to watch amid the ongoing Coronavirus lockdown, this one is currently topping our list. (Pardon any personal bias here!) It narrates the story of four sisters, Meg, Jo, Amy, and Beth, and how everything is not smooth but works out just fine at the end. So while you start off your Monday with blues, drive them away with Little Women TODAY.
Here are 5 reasons why we think Little Women is the perfect lockdown watch on a Monday:
1. It is all things old school
It is an adaptation from years ago, and there is no doubting how everything from the movie feels like the ancient times, and yet, it feels so classic, something that we can’t imagine witnessing now. None the less, the movie does bring about the reliability factor to the present day in various forms, with different characters.
2. The costumes are a visual treat
The movie takes you back to days when people enjoyed watching plays, one with all these fancy outfits, but also a sense of acting prowess that each one of the actors has managed to pull off just fine.
3. A casting coup in the real sense
From Meryl Streep to Laura Dern to Emma Watson, and of course, we cannot forget Timothee Chalamet. As Jo aka Saoirse Ronan takes the center stage with the narration and the story, you are sure to fall in love with everything that follows and the way the entire team takes it forward.
4. Gives a sense of motivation in the current scenario
Well, if anything, the movie has raised so many questions, but in the end, it has given the answer to it all with a happy ending, not in the sense that everyone falls in love, but in the sense that everyone comes to terms with the reality, makes an attempt at being happy to keep it together during tough times, and of course, not losing oneself in the wide wide world.
5. It celebrates love in every sense
The movie is about everything the sisters go through and how things are all well at the end, but through their journey, there are so many relations that have been highlighted. It talks about a man (Mr. Laurence) who finds his little girl in the form of Beth, it highlights how a woman keeps up with being a wife and a mother at the same time, among other things.
At the end of it all, the movie is an emotion and it is definitely capable of carrying you away with it, to a journey back in the good old days. And while you are at it, you have so many things to remember, and simply cherish.
