Mee Raqsam on Zee5 is the hidden gem on OTT one must explore

Mee Raqsam on Zee5 is the story of a Muslim girl who wishes to break barriers through her love for dance. However, all hell breaks loose when the politics of religion comes into play. Apart from Danish Husain, Aditi Subedi, and Naseeruddin Shah, it also features Shraddha Kaul and Rakesh Chaturvedi Om.

Directed by Baba Azmi, it is presented by Shabana Azmi as a tribute to their father Kafi Azmi. Recently, the movie also went international. It was the opening film at Coalition of South Asian Film Festivals (CoSAFF) 2020.

Mee Raqsam on Zee5 has our heart for the sheer love of fathers, one that is shown beautifully. While a lot of barriers coming Maryam’s (Aditi) way, father Salim (Danish) goes to extremes to enable her to achieve what she set out for. With some lessons on the way and a beautiful journey, the movie is beautifully narrated.

While it is true that not all is as real as we’d want it to be, it’s a start. Hindu-Muslim differences to what goes through on a single father are just some topics the film explores. In fact, it shows so much but keeps it so holistic, and that makes this film a gem.

As we consume content that is as fresh and in line with recent trends, Mee Raqsam on Zee5 is an absolute masterpiece. While it highlights a prime issue, it does so subtly, without overdoing it, and that makes it a worthy watch.

While Aditi and Danish have both done a spectacular job, the supporting cast is also one to look out for. Even though the movie makes you uncomfortable over pressing issues, it ultimately makes you feel good for more reasons than one!
