Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is out on Netflix today. However, there seems to be an added noise about the movie, one that is going into thin air. It features Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role, along with Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi. However, what people are noticing here is that the movie belongs to a star kid, and that is it. The Sadak 2 trailer too, came out today, and it seems to be receiving a similar treatment as it features Alia Bhatt.
Amid the ongoing nepotism debate and the entire insider v/s outsider arguments, important things seem to be getting missed. For instance, if we were to talk about the film Gunjan Saxena, we’d see a woman’s journey, one that has been impeccable. We also see the intricacy of the father-daughter relationship, among so many others of course.
Similarly, things stand true for the Sadak 2 trailer, purely because it has a bunch of great actors. Do we want to not witness a great story because of who is saying it? Probably, yes, but should we? No. While both the films, Gunjan Saxena as well as Sadak 2 deal with vastly different topics, the star kid factor seems to affect them both.
Hence, for the love of cinema, we need to understand what we are watching and if that deserves appreciation. If we love what we watch, we can always make the choice to like/dislike the actors and everyone else in on the team.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl trailer:
Sadak 2 also has an Aditya Roy Kapur, someone who started afresh, on his own. Likewise, Gunjan Saxena also has a Pankaj Tripathi, an actor we all celebrate. While separating the art from the artist is a forever debate, for films, it isn’t very difficult.
For instance, if someone wasn’t a Shah Rukh Khan fan, they don’t have to hate on his films, the romanticists will agree. This idea holds true for almost every art form, in one way or the other.
Many might not agree to what the Sadak 2 trailer shows, but the cast of the film, in its entirety, is good. A movie like Gunjan Saxena, couldn’t be so bad that it has an IMDb rating of less than even 5. The onus of this, is on us, as the audiences, and the consumer of entertainment. We need to value quality films to be able to have more of them being made.
Sadak 2 trailer:
If you ask us, we’d ask you to watch Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and Sadak 2 trailer, as well as the film. Once you sit through them, your opinion is yours to put forth, but the slamming and trolling? It is unfair and extremely demeaning for more reasons than one.
