Shaktimaan actor Mukesh Khanna has become the centre of attention after yet another statement of his. To say the least, to call it controversial would be an understatement. He has come under the scanner on social media after he spoke about the #MeToo movement. While talking about the movement is has no harm to it, the problem is what he has mentioned.
A video of his has been doing the rounds and he has spoken about what he feels about it. In what is an extremely misogynist statement, here’s what he said: Aurat ka kaam hai ghar sambhalna, jo maaf karna mein kabhi kabhi bol bhi jata hu (The job of a woman is to take care of the house). Problem kaha se shuru hue hai #MeToo ki jab aurato ne bhi kaam karna shuru kar diya (The problem of #MeToo began when women started working). Aaj aurat mard ke saath kandhey se kandha milani ke baat karti hai (Today, women talk about walking shoulder-to-shoulder with men).
Soon after, there are tweets that have taken over social media, slamming him. While some shared a video, some had a lot to say. Check out some of the tweets slamming Shaktimaan actor Mukesh Khanna:
@Mukeshkhanna45 I'm sorry that you were my childhood admirer. All the 90s kids will now regret being unaware of your try side. Shame on your stereotypical thinking! #MukeshKhanna #MeToo pic.twitter.com/hFwR3lEC25

'MeToo movement' started because men exploited women, not because they started working. Nature never discriminates everyone has a right to earn his/her living. Women never needed to be equal of men because she is far better. #MukeshKhanna https://t.co/9QnwrDMM9r

#MukeshKhanna I feel sorry for you sir. Do you know its women who grow a major share of world's food? They work, work and work. They carry their kids to fields. Many girls are forced to work in fields and not sent to school. And here you worry about #metoo

The statement from Shaktimaan actor Mukesh Khanna is definitely something that is absolutely appalling. While Twitter is just as enraged as anyone could be, it isn’t something that has settled very well. Before women stepped out, women were still subject to harassment, equal or not. At a time when we work on being progressive and promoting feminist views, this isn’t what we needed to hear.
A childhood hero for the masses, maybe the superhero doesn’t live up to his name in real life, after all.
