As it turns out, there are many firsts that are yet to take over the entertainment industry. Just when we thought there is nothing good we can get amid the pandemic, Tom Cruise has come to the rescue. The actor has always been one to pull off some impressive stunts, and this time, he will do so in space. That’s right, he is looking at a collaboration with NASA for a one of its kind film in outer space.
On Tuesday, the head of NASA confirmed reports about a possible collaboration with Tom Cruise for an international space film. Further, there is a confirmation about him launching into space and stay aborad the station, a laboratory that orbits about 250 miles above Earth.
While it is true that films have been shot in space earlier, including a documentary in 2002 that Cruise narrated, but, he will be the first actor to take on this journey of extraterrestrial travel. NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine gave away the confirmation on collaborating with Tom Cruise.
He took to Twitter and wrote, ‘NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station! We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA’s ambitious plans a reality.’

Now, while these reports about a film with Tom Cruise have been confirmed, there is still no clarity on the how. None the less, we do know that this film will be shot aboard the International Space Station. While we don’t know about Tom Cruise’s role here, we know he can pull off stunts very well, don’t we? Mission Impossible saw the actor clutch on the sides of an Airbus A400 while it took off.
What also gets interesting is SpaceX being a part of the collaboration and so, Elon Musk will be associated with this film too. Back in February, SpaceX did announce launching four private citizens to orbit around earth. Is This about Tom Cruise’s film though?
This launch is due at the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022, and we wonder if this is a part of Tom Cruise and Elon Musk’s collaboration. They will be flying in SpaceX developed Crew Dragon spacecraft, which will also be flying NASA astronauts to the international space station sometime this month.
Ask NASA on further details about the Tom Cruise film, the spokesperson did not reveal much to The Verge. However, the statement did mention that right now things are at a nascent stage and more will be said at an appropriate time.
