Understanding why films like Shakuntala Devi biopic are a step in the right direction

Shakuntala Devi biopic has been one of the most awaited films of this year and the trailer has come out today. She was an impeccable mathematical wizard, also known as the human computer for her ability to make quick calculations.

While the trailer of the movie came out today, it only makes one think why such films are important. Before we heard about the film, many of us never heard about her, but now we will witness her story, not without drama of course.

Vidya Balan will step into the shoes of the wizard and it makes us wonder so many things all at once. while it is true that no one but her could have aced the role of Shakuntala Devi, it is also a story that needs to be told.

Check out the trailer of Shakuntala Devi biopic here:

Directed by Anu Menon, she has also co-written the Shakuntala Devi biopic along with Nayanika Mahtani. The movie is a tale of a notable woman that the country must celebrate, and the film does it right.
On one hand, the movie is a female-centric film with male characters taking a backseat, and on the other, it is a move in the right direction. The movie through its due course showcases the journey of Shakuntala Devi, and also her struggles, including one as a mother.

For someone who holds a place in the 1982 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records, she is the real star, isn’t she? If we come to think of it, the reel-life stars are the pathway to telling stories of real-life stars. With stories like Shakuntala Devi, Neerja, and a few others, Bollywood has managed to achieve an edge with credibility.

For example, we will soon be seeing Janhvi Kapoor in the Gunjan Saxena biopic. And that is just another story that must be told, if not for people, at least as a gesture to celebrate her. However, it is important to also understand how we need more such films after all!
