A controversy has been stirred when a Chennai school question paper referred to the farmer protesting against the farm bills as “violent maniacs who act under external instigation”, and it also mentioned phrases like “diabolical violence” and “rampage” in order to describe the events that took place during the Republic Day tractor rally.
According to the News Minute, on February 11th these controversial phrases were used in a question paper of a 10th class English Language and Literature paper in the second revision exams held at a DAV Boys School. An image section of the question paper is getting a lot of attention as it is being widely circulated on social media, but it wasn’t made immediately clear as to who drafted this question paper.

Shocking to what extent govts can go to mislead young minds! If being called anti-national, Naxal etc wasn’t enough now a class X exam paper calls protesting farmers “violent maniacs who act under external instigation.” How many more insults will be heaped on our #farmers? pic.twitter.com/lKcBfX4Aqs

“The diabolical violence that broke out in the national capital on Republic Day filled the hearts of the citizens with condemnation and abhorrence after the farm law protesters went on a rampage destroying public property and attacking police personnel in broad daylight. Write a letter to the Editor of a daily newspaper in your city, condemning such terrible, violent acts of miscreants who fail to realize that country comes before personal needs and gains,” this was the question drafted under section B of the question paper.
The students of this school were asked to write draft a letter to the editor of Chennai’s daily, condemning what is called, “terrible, violent acts of miscreants who fail to realize that country comes before personal needs and gains.”
This is a sample fm a Class X English paper of a popular Chennai school. The incident and the much larger farm bills issue is still being discussed but here this is being said ‘violent maniacs under external instigation’ pic.twitter.com/N27ooheHJV

Based on this Chennai school question paper’s observations, the students were further asked to give a few suggestive measures to prevent such violent maniacs who act under “external instigation.” In the question paper, it was added, “destroying public property, disgracing the national flag, and attacking police personnel is few of the various illegal offenses committed, that can never be justified for any reason whatsoever.”
The DAV Boys Senior Secondary School is from the Gopalapuram area in the city of Chennai. The 10th class boys of the school told The News Minute that this question came along with another 10-mark question, and the option was to select which one to attempt under the section.
A student stated, “There is a letter format that has been taught to us, with the sender’s address, receiver’s address, etc, we replicated that format and wrote the body of the letter based on the question and the points raised in the question.”
