On Wednesday, a 62-year-old temple priest was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Devanahalli. The priest allegedly sexually assaulted the 10-year-old girl at his daughter’s residence. The priest has been identified as 62-year-old Venkataramanappa. According to police, when he had gone to visit his daughter at around 4 pm in Devanahalli,  he saw the 10-year-old girl playing outside.

Deputy Commissioner of North East Bengaluru, CK Baba, said that at around 4.30 pm, Venkataramanappa somehow managed to bring the girl inside his daughter’s house and sexually assaulted her. After a while when the little 10-year-old girl did not come home her parents started looking for her. First, they went to the temple which was located near the accused’s daughter’s home and asked street vendors whether they had seen their daughter. One of the vendors informed the girl’s father that she had gone into the accused’s daughter’s house.

When her parents reached the accused’s place, they saw their daughter running out and crying loudly.  The girl narrated the whole incident and soon a crowd had gathered outside the house. Further, the Devanahalli Police were informed and the girl was taken for a medical examination.
On Tuesday, after questioning Venkataramanappa he revealed everything. On Wednesday, the priest was arrested for raping the minor girl. DCP CK Baba said that the priest has confessed to the crime. For evidence, the police retrieved the CCTV footage of Venkataramanappa talking to the girl on the road, and taking her inside his house. The CCTV camera in the temple near the house had recorded everything.
