Bhawana Kanth becomes first woman fighter pilot to take part in Republic Day Parade Flypast on 26th January.
Bhawana Kanth, flight lieutenant, will be the first female fighter pilot to participate in the ceremonial event on the 26th of January at this year’s Republic Day Parade.
“I had been watching the Republic Day Parade on television and now now I am going to be a part of it. It is a matter of pride for me,” said Bhawana to NIE.
In 2016, Bhawana was part of the Indian Air Force’s first batch of three woman fighter pilots.

Bhawana Kanth came out of Bihar and in November 2017 joined the fighters squadron. After flying solos in the MiG 21 Bison, she was operational in March 2018.
The Republic Day flypast will showcase two of the newly inducted Rafale fighter planes. In Eklavya Formation and Brahmastra Formation, any Rafale fighter can fly. In which Bhawana Kanth first woman fighter pilot to take part in the parade.
It will be flanked by two jaguars and two MiG 29s in the shape of Eklavya.
About 42 aircraft (IAF and Army) will be taking part in this year’s Republic Day Flypast.
There will be fifteen fighters, five transport aircraft, 17 helicopters, one antique aircraft, and four helicopters for the Army Aviation.
Republic Day Parade Flypast
The flypast would ultimately end with the ‘Vertical Charlie’ formation will be carried out by Rafale fighters, the IAF said.
The aircraft will fly vertically at low altitude and does rolls before stabilising at higher altitude in the ‘Vertical Charlie’ formation.
As a special guest to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the 1971 war, the Bangladesh Army Contingent is participating in the Republic Day Parade.
The antique Dakota aircraft of the IAF, accompanied by two MI 17 1V helicopters, will ride past the Rudra Formation at the time when the Bangladesh Contingent will march past the saluting dais of President Ram Nath Kovind.
Flt Lt Tanik Sharma will be recruited by the Air Force Marching contingent of 100 staff. A total of four officers and 96 other ranks will be in place.
The LCA Tejas model, Light Fighting Aircraft, Rohini Radar, Akash Rocket, and Sukhoi 30MKI will be exhibited in the IAF Tableaux.
Rafale multirole fighters were officially inducted into the IAF in September 2020 and eight of the 36 purchased at Rs 59,000 cr in 2016 have joined the IAF till now. All Rafale fighters will join the IAF by 2022.
