The tale of two countries: When Indian govt is asking people to wear a mask indoors, American govt is suggesting opposite

Indian government is asking people to wear masks indoors and on the contrary, the USA is getting back to an 'unmasked' culture.

The coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on our lives. A disease that originated from Wuhan, China has now become a subject of the bloodbath. People all around the globe are fighting against this deadly virus. The unimaginable figure of 148 Million covid cases is not only spine-chilling but also worrisome for humans. With more than 3 Million deaths worldwide we are witnessing a mass inhumation right now. Having said that, in February, it seemed like India had gotten Covid-19 under control, with daily cases falling nearly 90%. However, the second wave of this coronavirus pandemic that started in March 2021 is more petrifying. With several new variants development, this has created a huge number of complications for India. Currently, India is the worst-hit country to witness this ghastly reality of daily staggering cases and shocking numbers of deaths per day.

According to stats, the USA is on the top of the table right now in terms of total cases and deaths. But, their overall percentage of daily recorded Covid cases and deaths is much less than in India. According to experts, this second wave of the Covid-19 virus is heading towards a massive life-threatening period. It has been made very clear that India will witness an apocalypse between the month of May and June.

How should India tackle this new variant along with the second wave of Coronavirus?

One of the main reasons for the widespread of this novel coronavirus is negligence in taking care. World Health Organization had primarily instructed all the countries that to restrict the spread of this virus we have to avoid mass gatherings and compulsorily wear masks. However, apart from some insane religious gatherings, India took all the necessary steps such as imposing lockdown and night curfew. But, one of the main drawbacks India had was citizens taking ‘Masks’ not so seriously. There had been several incidents where the Covid guidelines were hugely violated by not wearing masks. This irresponsible behavior has given rise to this deadly second wave of Covid-19. Doctors and experts have immensely stressed this topic because the new variant has the strength and capacity to attack you even though you are wearing a mask. So to tackle this new variant, one of the most effective strategies doctors have suggested is wearing a double mask.

Why should we wear a double mask? Is it really necessary?

Here is the tricky part, the real question here is what kind of mask are you wearing or which mask are you wearing. In simple terms, the transmission of the Covid-19 virus is based on respiratory droplets. So your mask has the duty to cover your nose and mouth from those droplets. Therefore the quality of the mask is very important than the quantity. The 3 layered surgical masks which doctors wear have special protection with an absorbent inside the mask (Whiteside) and a special protective layer outside (blue color layer).

However, other than wearing this double mask, now the government has also asked people to wear masks at their homes.

Why the government wants you to wear a mask at home too?

As we all know Covid-19 spreads primarily from person to person through respiratory droplets, which travel in the air when someone coughs, sneezes, talks, or shouts. These droplets can then land in the mouths or noses of people in the vicinity or may be breathed in. Again, a large number of people do not show symptoms. There is a huge possibility that asymptomatic people can continue to spread the infection at home. The head of India’s Covid-19 task force, Dr. V K Paul stressed that even when asymptomatic people are talking, they can spread the infection.

This can be a big change for Indian citizens because there already had been instances where people were not even wearing masks outdoors during rallies or weddings or gatherings and wearing a mask at home, yes that’s a really big step. Meanwhile, America on the other hand is doing exactly the opposite of what India is doing. In the recent development, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed that Americans do not have to wear a mask outdoors when gathering in a small group.

Is America heading back to an ‘unmasked’ culture?

On Tuesday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated their guidelines stating that Americans who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can safely do many outdoor activities without wearing a mask.

“If you are fully vaccinated and want to attend a small outdoor gathering with people who are vaccinated and unvaccinated or dine at an outdoor restaurant with friends form multiple households, the science shows — if you’re vaccinated — you can do so safely unmasked.”

said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky

CDC also released a graphic to help people on ‘when and where’ to wear a mask for both unvaccinated and fully vaccinated people.

US President Joe Biden also said that America is getting back to its social life like before and so getting vaccinated is very important.

“Getting together with friends, going to a park for a picnic without needing to mask up — we’re back to that place now as long as you get vaccinated, So go get the shot.”

So we urge all our readers, before mounting any assumptions or making any comments on America’s unmasked culture and India’s indoor mask recommendation you need to understand that India has a huge number of asymptomatic cases. Therefore it is impossible to identify someone who is suffering from Coronavirus but doesn’t have any symptoms so wearing masks at home eliminates this possibility of getting infected by your own housemates or family members. Talking about the USA and their decision to get back to ‘unmasked’ culture, this largely depends upon the daily new infections and fully vaccinated count. Currently, India is going through a tough time and the only priority we should have is to stay safe and get vaccinated as soon as possible.

The third phase of India’s vaccination drive starts from May 1st and the registration for the same starts from 28 April at 4 pm. Register yourself and get vaccinated.
