Have you met Captain Priyavignesh, whose in-flight announcements in Tamil are now VIRAL?

Have you met IndiGo pilot First Officer Captain G Priyavignesh, who has been getting praise from all corners after he shared a short clip of his Tamil in-flight announcement? It all happened a week ago when Priyavignesh flew passengers from Chennai to Madurai. During the flight journey, he pointed out landmarks such as the spot where River Cauvery splits into Kollidam and Cauvery near Trichy, the Srirangam temple, which is located between the two tributaries, the Alagarkovil reserve forest area in Madura, and so forth.

“Tharpodhu naam kadal mattathirlerundhu 16,000 adi uyarathil parandhu kondirukirom. Tharpodhaya namudiya vaan vazhi pathaianadhu Trichyai nokki, Cauvery aatrankaraiyil azhaga amaindhulla Trichy managara meedhu parandhu...” he can be heard saying in the video. (“We are now flying 16,000 feet above sea level. From our path through the skies towards Trichy, we can see that we are flying above the picturesque Trichy district, located along the banks of Cauvery…”)

“After another 5 to 7 minutes you can see Azhagar hills forest area at your right side. On the left, we will have a beautiful view of Yaanai malai (Elephant hills). We will be landing by reducing the altitude gradually in hemispherical airway over Madurai city,” he further interested passengers with more details.

For the unversed, thirty-year-old Captain Priyavignesh hails from Chennai and he has been practising his in-flight announcements in Tamil over the past one month. “This time I decided to record it with the help of a friend, so I can receive some feedback. I never thought it would go viral when I posted it,” he told The News Minute.

What prompted him to do so?

When pilot Priyavignesh was asked what inspired him to do so, he revealed that it was a precedent set by some of his seniors. “Captains like Ashok with whom I flew the flight were most encouraging. Captain Abhijith, who’s a Maharashtrian, would request me to teach him a few words in Tamil so he can greet passengers. Even during my training days our instructor would encourage us to give it a go,” he told the news portal.

As expected, his announcement in his mother tongue impressed the netizens as well, who showered him with love on social media.
