The passenger, Susanta Sahoo, posted the story on Twitter. Sahoo explained in his post that he had booked a ride in Patra’s auto but mistakenly left his phone and wallet behind while getting out in a hurry.

Full of admiration for Patra, Sahoo said that not only did the man return his belongings, he even refused to accept a cash reward.

“Hey @Olacabs, just wanted to let you know about Jagannatha Patra, an amazing guy & my Ola auto driver( #Bhubaneswar) who returned my phone & wallet after I left them behind in a hurry after my ride,” Mr Sahoo wrote on Twitter. “Politely refused when I offered him cash rewards as a return favour.”

Sahoo also shared a photograph of Patra.

Since being posted by Sahoo, the tweet has gone viral with over 5,000 ‘likes’ on the microblogging platform. While some social media users appreciated Sahoo for his honesty, others urged Ola to reward him.

Taking note of the incident, Ola Cabs requested Sahoo to share his booking ID so they could forward the positive feedback to the driver.

Sahoo also shared Patra’s Google Pay ID, following which several Twitter users stepped forward to help him monetarily.

Sahoo, in an update, said that he had spoken to Patra, who was excited” about the appreciation he has received on social media. “Also, he requested me to profusely thank everyone who have rewarded him financially!” he wrote.

It is because of people like Odisha’s Jagannatha Patra that we still believe in humanity and  honesty in an otherwise unfair world.
