A nine-year-old boy from Kerala, who dreams of becoming a pilot, finally got a glimpse of the cockpit with the help of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi shared a video on Instagram, where he can be seen inviting Advait Sumesh to visit a helicopter and taking him through how the chopper’s control panel works.
On April 3, Saturday, the Wayanad MP met the little boy at a tea shop in Kannur district while campaigning in poll-bound Kerala. Gandhi was reportedly impressed by the boy’s proficiency in the languages English and Hindi. When he asked the boy what he wanted to be when he grew up, he said that he dreams of becoming a pilot, and mentioned that he has never seen a helicopter from close quarters before.
Gandhi then invited Advait to visit his helicopter the next day. Rahul Gandhi and a woman pilot at Calicut International Airport took him to the cockpit, showing him how things work.
“We’ve taken the first step to make Advait’s dream come true,” reads the caption alongside the video shared on Rahul Gandhi’s Instagram. “Now it is our duty to create a society and a structure that will give him every opportunity to fly.”
Since being shared on Instagram, the video has been viewed more than 1.6 lakh times.
“Empathy goes a long way to win hearts,” wrote one person in the comments section.
