A retired school teacher who choose to follow her passion for baking.

No one on the earth would have thought that attending a baking workshop that was originally meant for her daughter would change her future. Premilah Balakrishnan, 48, a retired secondary school teacher shares her story of being an accidental baker.

While talking to Platocast she shared her colorful journey of baking. She said, “Actually my love for baking was mainly driven when I was introduced to saree cream cakes”.

 

 

“The reason to pursue the saree cake is to create awareness of this beautiful sarees and ornaments”

When asked about her craft of making these saree cakes, she said, ” To design and make this saree cakes it takes normally 3 to 4 days as the process being intricate and it also depends upon the weather”.

Further, Premilah mentioned that her love for decoration inspired her to make ornaments to enhance the beauty of saree cakes.

Her saree cakes have been getting a great response and wish to explore her creativity to make new products as well.

She also conducts one-to-one classes where she teaches hands-on environment to enhance your skills in baking. Her eight hour one day class also includes homemade lunch and tea time snacks prepared by her ever-supportive mother.

“I’m a teacher with 21 years of experience teaching secondary school students. Teaching is my passion and I can’t go a day without doing it. Probably in a different setting now, but my students who come to learn baking all call me teacher and that gives me so much joy!”

And finally, when asked about her future plans she said, “I wish to continue baking and spread this art, and for that more of the younger generation should come forward to learn and also take these skills to earn extra income if not as a full-time business.”
