The first glimpse of Toofan on Prime Video definitely got a thumbs up from the fans of the actor. However, there’s always a flip side to movies that have remotely anything to do with religion, and this one checks that box. As it turns out, ‘boycott Toofan’ has been trending for almost a day now. From what netizens have to say, they have an issue with the movie promoting ‘Love Jihad’.
Toofan narrates the tale of boxer Aziz Ali aka Ajju Bhai. The story is one where he turns from a good to a national level boxer, and supporting him is Ananya. This movie is helped by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, and marks the second collaboration between the two. The role of Ananya is played Mrunal Thakur, who made heads turn with Super 30. In addition, it also features Paresh Rawal as the boxing coach. You can join the dots about why ‘boycott Toofan’ is trending!
This is obviously not the first time when the issue has surfaced on the internet. In fact, there have been advertisements earlier, that came under the scanner for similar reasons. This time around, the problem lies in the fact that there’s a love angle between Aziz Ali’ and Dr. Ananya/Pooja Sharma. Given the cancel culture that is present in Bollywood, this is not even a surprise anymore. But do we need it?

Today in Hindu-majority country of India, insult and mockery of Hindu Dharma, Hindu deities n Hindu customs is going on unabated through mediums like Web series, movies, social media and so on.

While the movie does seem like a promising watch, it has invited a lot of criticism already. And days ahead of Toofan’s release, it continues to receive flak. In fact, the trailer had also invited some trouble. As for the release date of Toofan, it is scheduled to stream on Amazon Prime Video on July 16.
Having said that, the cancel culture that is prevalent is truly abysmal and needs a check. We cannot be a democracy and continue to be a secular country if fiction representations become a problem.
Really, should we boycott Toofan, or boycott the cancel culture?
