WandaVision finale turned out to be an absolute surprise. However, Paul Bettany did have fans wondering about a Doctor Strange appearance in the finale. When Paul hinted at a surprise cameo, everyone hoped to see Benedict Cumberbatch. Nonetheless, that was not what happened for reals. And as it turns out, the team did have a strong reason for the same.
Soon after he teased a surprise cameo, in the end, fans realize that he was the cameo himself. Nonetheless, the truth is that the team did have plans for Doctor Strange in WandaVision finale. However, as Kevin Feige told in a May 2021 interview with Rolling Stone, the plans were changed end moment.
Feige revealed that Benedict aka Doctor Strange cameo was to happen in the finale of WandaVision. However, he cited the reason for changing the same not wanting to remove the focus from Wanda.
Feige told Rolling Stone: Some people might say, ‘Oh, it would’ve been so cool to see Doctor Strange.’ But it would have taken away from Wanda. We didn’t want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie – here’s the white guy, ‘Let me show you how power works.’
Feige further explained about the fake commercial breaks as well. He explained how they were Wanda’s attempt to send out messages to Doctor Strange. In fact, Benedict’s appearance in WandaVision was final to the point that a deal was finalized. However, it was changed after a late rewrite to ensure the focus is on Wanda as well as Agatha (Kathryn Hahn).
Here’s what Twitter has to say about the reason behind no Doctor Strange in WandaVision finale:
I was wondering why #DoctorStrange wasn't in #WandaVision, & it's because Kevin Feige didn't want him #Mansplaining to Wanda.

No one builds a universe like Marvel but they let's themselves down on things like this. The fella isn't just some "white guy" saving the day it's his job to deal with magical threats to the world 🤷♂️ The question is why wasn't he there… #DoctorStrange #WandaVision https://t.co/mqiF6MhTDK

WandaVision would have been EVEN BETTER if he had shown up! @Kevfeige that "white man" is as great a character as wanda and would have added to the show not taken anything away #MarvelStudios #wandavision #DrStrange https://t.co/65v6MyajUU

While we bet that it would have been amazing to have Doctor Strange in the WandaVision finale, it was better this way, isn’t it? At a time when we keep talking about more female-oriented films and shows, what better way than this? The finale ultimately saw Wanda being able to master her powers. While everyone was blown away at that, we know Agatha is to be credited on this one.
Having said that, fans did miss the presence of Doctor Strange since fan theories were proven wrong. Nonetheless, we will see Wanda and Doctor Strange coming together in the sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Doctor Strange 2 release date has been announced as well. It will release on March 25, 2022.
So while many are still upset, let’s cheer on being happy about Doctor Strange 2’s release date finally here!
