RIP Dilip Kumar: Truly the end of an era as the world mourns Bollywood legend’s demise

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar passed away on Wednesday at 98. The actor was suffering from prolonged illness. Kumar is survived by his wife Saira Banu. Devdas and Mughal-E-Azam are some of his most popular works. Today morning, he passed away. It was on Tuesday last week that he was admitted to the hospital.

It was through the late actor’s Twitter account that the news first came out. Family friend Faisal Farooqui posted on Twitter, sharing the news about Dilip Kumar’s demise. The post said: With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return.

Kumar’s contribution to Hindi cinema has been such that his demise truly marks the end of an era. Ever since the news about the actor’s demise came out, Twitter is mourning his loss. Condolences for Dilip Kumar have come in from President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi, among others.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan also penned a post. He writes: An institution has gone .. whenever the history of Indian Cinema will be written , it shall always be ‘before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar’ .. My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss.. Deeply saddened. Along with Big B, many actors and others from the industry also paid their respects to the legendary actor.

The last rites for the actor will take place at the Juhu Qabrastan at Santacruz, Mumbai at 5 pm. Meanwhile, medical professionals treated the actor for bilateral pleural effusion. Though the procedure was successful, they admitted him to the hospital soon after. And today morning, came the news of his demise.

It is indeed the end of an era in Hindi cinema today. May his soul rest in peace!
