India is currently under the second wave of the COVID-19 virus with around 1,34,00,000 total cases. The staggering numbers have pushed India on the second spot worldwide in terms of the highest COVID-19 infections. It’s been more than a week that the highest single-day spikes are growing each day. However, the state government is yet to make any decisions regarding lockdown. Many states have already imposed night curfew. What makes it worse is that the government has also stopped vaccination in many cities or regions due to the lack of availability. This halt has given rise to worsen the situation in the country following 170,209 total deaths till now.
Having said that, people are yet to understand the seriousness of the virus. Social distancing and avoiding crowd gathering is something that is extremely important to attend to the fall of this deadly virus. But what we have witnessed today in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar is baffling and horrendous at the same time. On Monday, people gathered in large numbers for the second royal bath of the Kumbh. This occasion is worldwide popular and devotees are profoundly committed to never miss the holy dip in the river banks and pray for their wellness. As the social distancing norms were hugely violated by the devotees, the police also mentioned that it is very difficult for them to ensure social distancing or issue challans.
“We are continuously appealing to people to follow Covid appropriate behavior. But due to the huge crowd, it is practically not possible to issue challans today. It is very difficult to ensure social distancing at ghats,” said Inspector-general of Police, Haridwar Kumbh Mela, Sanjay Gunjyal, according to news agency ANI.
Looking at the stats of Uttrakhand, the state has a total of 107K cases following 1,752 deaths. The active cases have crossed the 6,000 mark. So after the Kumbh Mela incident came to light, the Internet was not only shocked but also questioned the hypocrisy of the authorities and state government. Netizens also started trending Tablighi Jamaat and started questioning why is Kumbh Mela not responsible for violating the COVID-19 now? Why was Tablighi Jamaat only accused of holding religious gatherings and spreading the virus?
Have a look:

Correct. The markaz event had 3400 attendees when there were a few hundred covid cases and no restrictions in the country. The Kumbh mela has several lakhs when there are 1.7 lakh cases and stringent restrictions in the country. There is no comparison. https://t.co/4UgJPZz20B

Given how Covid cases are spiking across the country, the Govt should relook the rules on mass congregations, including at religious gatherings like the Kumbh in Uttarakhand. Curbs must be put in place to ensure that there are no mass gatherings. Covid situation already alarming.

Tablighi Jamaat was called ‘Single Source’ by Godi Media when 2500 people attended & total cases were just 1000
Does Godi Media have the guts to call Kumbh Mela as ‘Single Source’ when lakhs attend it & cases are 1.7 lakh/day?
Pin-drop silence now by shameless Bhakts & Modia 😠

Modi in the Morning 🌄
– Mitron, 3 Massive Rallies in Bengal today & Kumbh Mela in Haridwar
Modi at Night 🌃
– Mitron, follow ‘night curfews’, be careful, stay at home and avoid crowded places
Does Modi have dual personality disorder? 🙄

FIR should be filed against organisers of Kumbh…. wait… who are the organizers? pic.twitter.com/8adFVIVvff

With 1.2 million active cases, and daily number reaching 2 lakhs, it’s bizarre to have poll rallies & a full Kumbh Mela. This will take the virus deeper into villages & small towns. This is the calamity we dodged with a crippling lockdown in 1st wave. Now we’re inviting it back.

All the folks, including politicians & news channels, that went berserk over Tablighi Jamaat even deeming it “Corona jihad” last year at the beginning of the pandemic seem to have suddenly lost their voice over Kumbh. Hypocrisy got your throat? Shameless bigots. This is criminal https://t.co/mXDBb7Pn8s

@ShekharGupta if what the Tablighi Jamaat did was a crime against humanity what’s this happening at the #KumbhMela . You don’t seem to feel the same level of disgust. Sad but I guess this is the new reality of the country. #HinduRashtra @RanaAyyub https://t.co/KQOtzoeXwW

This country, system, society and Media systemically targeted Muslims and Tablighi Jamaat last year.
Each and every Anti-Muslim news was very well planted in Media, they ran # tags against Muslims, they attack poor Muslim vendors on the street!
Now no outrage on Maha Kumbh?

“Do gaz ki doori” is not applicable here because this is not Tablighi Jamaat https://t.co/XNFzVGCUI2

Why is the Tablighi Jamaat still the byword for all extra-crowded religious congregations that are breaking COVID protocols? Their mistimed congregation happened once while India was just preparing to handle.
The current ones are happening knowingly amidst a vicious second wave.

The Tablighi jamaat was super spreader. The Maha Kumbh Mela is a super spreader. The political rallies are super spreaders.

Tablighi Jamaat is a Talibani crime, not negligence: 2020 March
Mr @naqvimukhtar is still looking for a term for the Kumbh mela congregation on a day India witnessed the highest one day spike and has overtaken Brazil as the 2nd worst hit country https://t.co/PuNsDtJVQR
