On February 27, 2002, a coach of Sabarmati Express — Coach S6 — was set ablaze and 59 passengers traveling in that coach died in the fire. The train had just arrived at Godhra station. Out of the 59 people who died, 27 of them were women and 10 children. More than 48 passengers also suffered some injuries.
Back then Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujrat. He assigned a committee that consisted of Justice G T Nanavati and Justice KG Shah. The Commission in its report submitted that most of the 59 people killed were kar sevaks who were returning from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
Today on its 19th anniversary, Twitteratis are remembering this day and trending #GodhraMassacre on Twitter.
Have a look:
In 2021, no one remembers the charred bodies of women and children at Godhra (just imagine how those innocent lives ended getting burnt and suffocated), but everyone remembers ‘Gujarat riots’ of 2002 !
